It all started back in mid-2009, when I left on an exchange from Colombia to New Zealand. I didn't know anyone there; heck, I didn't even know anyone who had ever been there! Regardless, that made it all the more exciting. Little did I know that trip was going to change my whole life entirely.
The exchange was pretty straight-forward: six months of university there and return to finish my last two years of university back in Colombia. So I got there, started settling in, and decided that I had to make some friends instantly, as I started feeling pretty lost and lonely. When I got to my very first class, I saw this guy waiting outside the classroom. I was immediately drawn to his laid-back-messy-hair style. He just looked fun and different and interesting. So I decided to sit next to him, very casually, when he entered the room. I asked him his name. He replied rather bluntly. I tried again. Another monosyllabic response. I decided I wouldn't waste any more time on him. That is, until the class finished and to my surprise, he started talking to me about it. We talked for hours, and started hanging out basically every single day.
Fast forward six months, and I am head over heels about this guy. I extended my exchange for another six months, and we moved in together (completely out of character for me!). My only concern was that I was going back to Colombia in July, as I couldn't extend my exchange any longer. One of those days, I woke up and went to the doctor as something was just off. When I came back, I brought him the very surprising news that I was expecting a baby. Since that very moment, he decided he was going to go back to Colombia with me, regardless of his life in New Zealand. It wasn't easy for him to leave everything behind, but he is the most committed man I know, and sure enough, we managed to overcome all the obstacles and start our new lives in Colombia, while we waited for the little baby to arrive.
It has now been over four years since we met, our son Tommy is now three, and we are attached at the hip. Not many people believed it would work out, as we were so young when we met, had a baby when we hardly knew each other, and came from completely different cultures. But our love and commitment has been stronger than all that, and on December 21st, 2013 we finally got married. I feel so lucky and blessed to have such an amazing partner in crime, and I am certain that after all we have been through, we are well equipped to deal with whatever life throws our way.

Our dream of returning to New Zealand and settle there for good is still very strong, and that's how this blog was born. Self-employment has always been a goal of mine, and writing is my passion. I combined the two and decided to start something with the potential to generate some income in the future, so we can move there with the possibility of me working from home and being able to look after Tommy at the same time.
